POND ROOM

A small multipurpose space adjacent to a private pond in upstate New York. The three primary features of this project are: The Dock, which connects body to water, water to land, and event to event; The Pavilion, an outdoor eating area that feels like an extension of the dock and the enclosed pond room, and, The Pond Room, which will be used in many ways, including as a family room, art studio, kitchen, guest bedroom, and of course, as a room by the pond to enjoy year round.

The details and types of materials for this project are crucial to make the Pond Room feel both integrated with the landscape and unique it its own way. We are sourcing local materials including rough cut larch and reclaimed maple to create a project that feels uniquely fitted to the surrounding woods. Additionally, the board and batten cladding is a nod to the existing house and barn on the sprawling 75 acre site, and will serve as a humble and rustic complement to the modern aesthetic of the project.
